isn't it enough to know that i ruined a pony?

I am officially dropping out of SGA Big Bang. I couldn't make the story work and honestly had no desire to kick my own ass long enough to figure out why. So, for NaNo! :D? :D? :(

It's the end of the financial quarter, which means free lunches! Free Lunch Week is a beautiful thing. Even better than surprise!cake, because there is more of it, but not surprise!cupcakes because a) surprise! and b) cupcakes! and c) sometimes those chalky disc-shaped sprinkles! However it doeesn't make me as sleepy at the end of the day. Just the normal post-lunch sleepy without the added bonus of "why don't I keep a toothbrush in my desk for the high-sugar days?"

Fic rec!
I am a complete mess when it comes to actually reading email these days, so luckily [info]wandersfound sent the link for this on Twitter instead! She wrote this fic for me and it is sheer genius: The Bear Planet, Dwight is the Doctor's companion. NGL IT IS PRETTY MUCH THE MOST PERFECT REPRESENTATION OF THAT IDEA THAT COULD POSSIBLY EXIST. EVER.

The weather has turned to autumn overnight, pretty much. A big thunderstorm rolled in last night and temperatures dropped about 10° F, so now everyone is bitching about having to pull the heavy sweaters back out of storage. THESE PEOPLE ARE INSANE BECAUSE HEAVY SWEATER WEATHER > ALL OTHER SWEATER. I MEANT WEATHER. WHAT.

Still listening to Sarah Harmer's Almost on a loop.

Don't send help. ♥_♥

Oh hay wait, do send help. Boss and Fail!coworker appear to be about to come to blows. Soothe them with folky Canadian singer-songwriters y/mfy/just gtfo to lunch early?

I believe I have discovered the reason why I ship Penny/Sheldon. In addition to all the other reasons, that is. Bear with me, I had about 300x too much sugar today. :D:

Okay. So, I am a big Doctor/Rose fanpoodle, but not that maudlin Tenth Doctor moping crap. The fun, giddy Ninth Doctor/Rose but he's still all totally broken and weird and she's just delighted by everything and they bicker and lol and are generally being awesome. And neither of them annoys me with big puppy-dog eyes and Reinette and generally being idiots.

Penny/Sheldon kind of gives me that vibe. It is Awesome Yet Faily Guy/Pegging Major all over the place, okay?

Not that I have an archetypal couple or anything.

Ahem. So, anyway, there's this scene in Boom Town: )

Yeah, that went to a weird place and probably made no sense at all. Bottom line: Penny yay \o/ Sheldon yay \o/ Leonard nay /o\

Whoops I forgot all about doing day 7 of that week-in-the-life meme. Considering that I didn't leave the house at all yesterday, you're probably better off.

Here's a round-up of all the new fic posted since the last time I did a round-up. In reverse chronological order, just because. And yes, that new BBT fic is now in three parts. *headdesk*

holy shit this needs a cut )

Okay so my [info]femgenficathon attempts are slowly growing closer to awesome. Thanks so much to everyone who filled out the poll!

In the meantime, though, I'm going to do that "Post an excerpt from some of the fics you're working on right now" meme. Only two excerpts though because they're ridiculously long excerpts.

In roughly alphabetical order by author, I suggest you read the following because they're so, so great:

  • Apocalypse Plan: Number 19 by [info]curia_regis; The Big Bang Theory: Sheldon's got their survival all planned out, but it's Penny who saves the day. (I know I've already rec'd this but it was from my prompt and ILIT.)

  • Whimper by [info]afrocurl; Veronica Mars: "Wallace is the only one! Or how to potentially survive the Apocalypse."
    OMG IT'S A WALLACE-CENTRIC FIC ♥♥♥

  • Nowhere To Be Found by [info]anr; House: Fabulous post-epidemic Cuddy story.

  • After the Fall by [info]beckyh2112; HP: A creepy little story that does a superb job of building a realistic post-end of the world environment in very short order.

  • Killing Time in the Shade by [info]caitn; NCIS: "Even on the brink of a supernatural apocalypse, it's pretty much business as usual at NCIS."

  • The Apocalypse, With Sandwiches by doyle_sb4; Doctor Who: Adorable and fun with just a hint of bittersweet - this reads like a particularly awesome episode.

  • The Inhuman Doctor by [info]daffybroad; Doctor Who: A story that juxtaposes the horror of the universe dissolving with a far more powerful and personal one - WARNING: May be triggery (implicit rape)

Anyone else have recs? I'm planning to finish up the fandoms I know over the next few days but there's a ton that I have no real knowledge of the original works: SG1, CSI:NY, Leverage, Dr. Horrible (which I fully intend to watch tonight because omg how has it taken me this long??), Merlin, &c.

(It's a little surprising every year to see so few XF stories. It's just not an apocalyptothon without the possibility of Flukemen. :( )

So my Barbara/Ian [info]tardis_bigbang story is in and done and the whole challenge is supposed to go live on Wednesday. Yay! Mine's like 50 pages in Word (wtaf 26000 words) and, well, pretty boring. I'm not so good with the consistent pacing. Like, at all.

Oh well! At least it's done and I don't completely hate it? \o/

Although I did just realize tonight that I completely left out an important character who was supposed to make a cameo. Argh.

Earlier tonight I found the awesomest thing ever: a bootleg of a concert Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band gave on the day I was born!

I've been having the most terrible nightmares the last couple of weeks, including one last night where there was some sort of global apocalypse and I had to take refuge in a Spring Break bar on a beach and none of my family would answer their phones. Wait, no, at one point my dad did, said a bunch of gibberish, then hung up on me.

Yeah, definitely need to lay off the Doctor Who well before bedtime.

Also need to stop trying to pimp the show to friends and coworkers because finding a way to say "he travels in space and time in a version of a British phone booth thing and fights giant pepper pot robot things, oh and he regenerates into new people sometimes" without sounding like a lunatic is really difficult.

The Joys of Wikipedia Vandals

The first usage of the word "chain saw" was by General Custer during his famous last stand. His conversation with a field colonel is often told as thus:

Custer: "Have the men break out the chain saws and we'll scare of them natives." Colonel Mustard: "But what if we run out of gasoline before they are defeated?" Custer: "You mean gas-o-hol?" Colonel Mustard: "Sure." Custer: "These them thar chain saws don't work on gas-o-hol. They work on hopes and dreams. If we run out of that, then they just ain't worth defeatin' anyways." Colonel Mustard: "I love you General." Custer: "I love you too."

Why yes, I did stay up ridiculously late just to watch Planet of the Dead!

And so, here you go, the Return of the Dreaded Squee-Along Post )

Final grade: A+++WOULDBUYFROMAGAIN

And I don't want to wait for Waters of Mars! While away the time by watching Fourth Doctor serials (like Robot!) and dreaming of Romana's return, y/mfy?

Will do way tardy replies to comments tomorrow after family dinner. Happy Easter to all of you who celebrate, and a Happy Sunday to those who don't! (Also, lol late but I hope those of you who celebrate Passover had good seders and aren't chafing too much against the dietary restrictions (although om nom nom challah and matzah).)

So apparently I do actually have a biological clock. I know this because IT IS TICKING LIKE CRAZY WTF. No Liz Lemon baby-shoe-stealing moments yet but I'm getting close and I don't even want to have children in the first place!

I'm just going to blame BFF's upcoming wedding and hope that it passes soon afterward. Actually, if it could stop well before - so I don't do something monumentally stupid while drunk on romance, conspicuous spending, and champagne - that would be awesome.

D:

In less crazy news, I've been watching some S4 Who while waiting for Sarah Connor to load and Y HALO THAR DONNA NOBLE, MY NEW FAVORITE COMPANION EVER. :D :D

It's always refreshing to see something that tops the lunacy of Star Trek costuming y/y?

uh sure

Or maybe the word I'm looking for is OHGODWHAT. I really wish this screenshot were higher res because the cutouts on their clothing are amazing. And the girl is wearing what appears to be a swimsuit beneath her foam apron. AMAZING, I TELL YOU.

I watched the first three episodes of Castle yesterday and y halo thar new show I want to keep up with! Fillion's adorable (naturally) and I actually like the cases too. I'm giving all the credit to Rob Bowman for right now, because I love him, although pretty much everyone in the cast gets a giant ♥. I like that the show is ostensibly following Rick but it lets Kate take the lead a lot, and that Rick slowly sort of realizes that maybe he's a little out of his depth.

Or it could just be that Julia Nickson-Soul had a tiny part in episode 3 and I love her a little too much. I mean, come on. She made parts of Rambo II almost watchable.

It's problematic though because I want to read Richard Castle novels now, especially since the snippets we see him typing onscreen are out of context and so terrible.

And because I've never met a meme on my flist that I didn't like:

Ask any character I've written for advice, and they will provide it, advice columnist style. Your problems or fictional characters' problems both welcome. Management is not responsible for the results of following said advice (especially if provided by Mulder or Ben Hawkins).

:D

Lol impulse-iest of buyers! The Nightmare Project at work required only a glue stick to complete it, so I went to Kroger on my way into the office today (yes, on Saturday >:(). And walked out with a glue stick, a six-pack (!) of Reese's peanut butter eggs, and a copy of National Geographic.

Not that resisting a National Geographic cover story called "Egypt's Lady King" is actually physically possible, amirite?

And now I intend to spend the rest of my evening watching lolariously awesome First Doctor episodes. Because in them people do things like this:

Susan: OMG look I found this geiger counter!

Ian: OMG I think these radiation levels are dangerous. Let me check the dial.

The dial:

All: D:

Was watching the unaired pilot for Doctor Who last night, followed by a couple of the Marco Polo reconstructions (lol the framing device with old!Marco Polo sitting in someone's modern-day lounge "writing" a diary entry that was very clearly typed using a scripty font. Oh reconstructions, how I adore you) and thoroughly enjoying all the early 60s awesome. And no, I mean that awesome literally.

Then I looked up from the monitor to find [info]julie_reads watching Untraceable, just in time for lingering shots of Colin Hanks' erect nipples to scar me for life.

Yeah. Try going back to everyone shivering in the Himalayan snow after that one. D:

Oh look, I broke down and got an Ian/Barbara icon! Their little faces ♥_♥

Does anyone know if there's a comm or site for Classic Who canon and extended universe questions? I'm having trouble figuring out if some minor stuff is canonical or fanonical and can't put my hands on the right eps/novels to clear it up.

Like this: )

Also one of these days I'm going to remember that listening to 50s ballads always makes me tear up and/or start belting out Twilight Time, much to the dismay of everyone in hearing distance.

(Would you guys rather I start filtering this writing crap? I'm really sorry I keep droning on and on; actually having words to put to paper (er, pixels?) has apparently short-circuited my spamming filter. Eating lunch at my desk isn't helping much either.)

I have a few more challenge/exchanges coming up before the end of May, one of which is [info]tardis_bigbang! The story idea for it has been kicking around since 2005 or something ridiculous like that; it was originally supposed to be a fic for someone but I was distracted and never got around to finishing it. Lol fail. :(

Anyway, I'm reworking it now and it will be an Ian/Barbara fic, and I was wondering if anyone would be willing to be on a filter for it? Obviously (because I'm the one writing it ha ha), it will need the usual comma and adverb counseling, as well as some Britpicking and possibly history/canonicity help. Or, you could just read snippets here and there and give a general crap/not crap rating? I'm much less nervous about this than I was for In the Hollow Tree because it's not a gift for anyone.

OTOH, this is going to be my longest story so far and is for a pairing I'm not altogether familiar with (and for which there is a sad lack of fic), so. Yeah. *chews nails*

Watched Pineapple Express last night and wanted to do a bigger review because it isn't often that a weed movie comes off as anything other than something from the bottom of Will Ferrell's reject pile. However, will settle for a one-line review. Namely: I want to have its babies.

You can still request a ficlet! I'll probably have the first batch up on Friday or Saturday. (I really should probably attempt to work while at work at some point this week.)

Almost work-related image of the day:
During a meeting I didn't really have to be in because it had nothing to do with me or any of my projects, my mind started to wander. Suddenly thought of a Who fic which has been WIP for well over two years now, then realized I couldn't remember which Doctor was which. So, then this happened: )

LOL TERRIBLE WITH NAMES.
